It is understood that the powers-that-be in the European Parliament are seeking to enforce attendance at European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso's first ever 'State of the Union' address next week by punishing absentee MEPs with a docking of their daily subsistence allowance for meals and accommodation.

The International Court of Justice has ruled that Kosovo's declaration of independence in 2008 did not violate international law. The court therefore rejected the objections of Serbia from which Kosovo split after years of oppression and conflict and after NATO bombed Serbia to stop its war on Kosovans.

Question by Joanna Senyszyn: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has recently delivered several rulings regarding legal provisions in Poland which are in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights. Hitherto, the question of how ECHR rulings are implemented by EU Member States which are also members of the Council of Europe has been a matter for each individual Member State. Will the anticipated accession of the European Union to the European Convention on Human Rights alter this situation and, in particular, are there any plans to introduce EU mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of ECHR rulings by Member States of the European Union which are also members of the Council of Europe?

On Saturday 3 July Sarah joined the Liberal Democrat delegation marching with London Pride, a colourful annual celebration of LGBT rights. After the event, she said:

Two byelections in London have been caused by Labour originally putting up candidates who were not qualified to run for council, so they were later dismissed and the elections rerun at great expense to the taxpayer.
