55 Lib Dems take on Labour in Lewisham

Lewisham Liberal Democrats are fielding a full slate of candidates in the Lewisham Council elections on 4th May, for the first time. Lib Dem Mayoral candidate, Chris Maines, is joined by 54 candidates in the 18 wards across the borough see list of candidates.

The Liberal Democrats established themselves as the real challengers to Labour in Lewisham after winning a string of local by-elections. The Lib Dems have taken seats off Labour in Forest Hill, Lewisham Central, Lee Green and Downham over the past three and a half years. The Lib Dems also came second to Labour across the borough in last year's General Election in terms of share of the vote.

For the Mayoral race the Lib Dems have selected Chris Maines, a former leader of Bromley Council. Chris Maines comes from a Catford family. He was brought up in Orpington, where he was elected to Bromley Council as the youngest councillor, and served for 20 years. He now lives in Blackheath.
