Cllr Feakes criticised Lewisham's high council tax
Forest Hill Lib Dem councillor Alex Feakes has challenged the Labour administration in Lewisham over its record on Council Tax. Figures released by the Department for Communities and Local Government showed the borough's Council Tax has risen at the quickest rate since the tax was introduced to become the highest in inner London in 2009-2010.
Commenting on the administration's response that the high tax rate was justified by the borough having the second lowest charges and fees for services in the capital, Cllr Feakes said: "Labour in Lewisham seem proud to have the highest Council Tax in inner London despite the borough being one of the poorest. Lower charges do not excuse a failure to be efficient or to provide better services."
