Lib Dem councillors want the play area cleaned up so that local families can enjoy it
Whitefoot Liberal Democrat councillors have teamed up with local residents to call for the clean-up of a play area and park in Downham.
Cllr Dan Houghton and Cllr Pete Pattisson recently spoke to local people on Reigate Road and Ballamore Road who were concerned about glass and other rubbish that had been left in the play area. They also reported that some people had noticed their bins had gone missing, only to find that they had been set on fire and dumped in the park. Families mentioned that they were unwilling to take their children into the park at certain times, owing to to older teenagers gathering there, sometimes with large dogs.
Pete Pattisson said, "This should be a pleasant green area that local people and their families can enjoy. I will be working with residents, the council and local police to make sure everyone can enjoy the park again soon."
Reigate Road resident Jean Vecchi said, "Local people want to be able to use the park with their young families, but they just don't feel it's safe to at the moment. That's a real shame as people round here have always fought hard for the Council to provide activities and equipment for the young people to use."
