Lib Dems speak up for residents of Excalibur pre-fabs estate
Liberal Democrats unanimously backed a council motion last week calling on Lewisham's Labour mayor to think again about the redevelopment plans for the Excalibur pre-fabs estate in North Downham.

All 16 Lib Dem councillors voted in favour of the motion. Not one Labour councillor supported it and even the tiny group of 3 Tories were split 2:1!

Cllr Cathy Priddey accused Labour of bullying the residents. She said, "I fear that the ballot to be put before the residents next year will be a false choice - both options will involve bulldozing the estate. The threat has already been put about that if residents vote 'no', the council will simply redevelop with little opportunity for residents to have any say at all. That is not a choice, that is 100% blackmail."

Cllr Dan Houghton said, "Redevelopment of the Excalibur estate can only go ahead with the genuine support of residents following a fair ballot. We are calling on the Labour Mayor to explore all the possible options for this unique estate again and to ensure that all residents' concerns are listened to and respected. We will always support the residents' right to choose their own future."
